The Fort Worth community is invited to honor those who have served and reflect on Fort Worth’s rich military heritage at the annual Tarrant County Veterans Day Parade at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.
Be there: Following an opening ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at Panther Island Pavilion, the parade route begins at Panther Island Pavilion parking lot, marches down North Forest Park Blvd. past the new Fort Worth City Hall, and returns.
2024 theme: Now hosted by the Tarrant County Veterans Council, the annual celebration in Fort Worth began more than 100 years ago as an armistice procession through downtown in 1919 to honor those who had fought in World War I. The 2024 parade marks the 175th anniversary of the city’s establishment and has the theme Saluting Cowtown – from frontier soldiers to space frontiers & more.
City of Fort Worth Veterans Affairs Officer Joaquin Castillo said: “The Veterans Day Parade is a wonderful event that gives all ages of our community an opportunity to come together to recognize and celebrate the brave men and women who served our country. Not only does the event celebrate our veterans, but many of the folks who work hard to put on this event are veterans themselves, and it’s been an honor to work with the members of the Tarrant County Veterans Council to organize this year’s event.”
Did you know? Veterans Day is a federal holiday dedicated to honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. Observed annually on Nov. 11, it marks the end of World War I in 1918. Originally known as Armistice Day, it was renamed in 1954 to honor all American veterans — both living and deceased — who have served with honor during times of war and peace.
